Imam beaten for remarks on PM

An Imam of a mosque came under attack by some Musallis for making offensive remarks on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a pre-Juma prayers sermon in Ullaparha Upazila in Sirajganj district on Friday. Police said a group of Musallis (devotee) swooped on Patdhari Purbapara Mosque Imam Shariful Islam after he made ‘disparaging comments’ about the prime minister on Friday. They said supporters of the clergyman later tried to rescue him from the other group, sparking a clash that left at least 10 people injured. The cleric in the pre-prayer sermon said that ‘Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is trying to oppress the clerics and ruin mosques and madrasas’, Salanga Police Station OC Rezaul Islam said quoting witnesses. His statement evoked instant reaction from a group of devotees, according to bdnews24.com.
