The government has selected 100 ongoing and new projects under annual development programme (ADP) to showcase those in the website of the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) for the first time, official sources said.
The IMED will regularly update various details, including financial position of the projects, from July 15 to let the general people know about the status and progress of the public sector development projects.
Finance and planning adviser Mirza Azizul Islam is expected to formally inaugurate the IMED website, marking the important development that aims at establishing transparency and taking forward the e-governance programme, source added.
Earlier, the decision to host a website on the ADP activities by the IMED was taken at a meeting of the national resource committee and budget monitoring wing last month.
The meeting also directed the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to provide updated monthly financial report relating to resource distribution and utilisation on its website.
"The IMED's existing website will have another window, which will contain details of the ADP implementation progress, including elaboration of 100 priority projects," said a planning ministry official.
Reports including the financial and physical progress of the ADP will be made public through the website, which will also facilitate the people to express their individual views about the information.
The MoF and the IMED do not normally update the data on their websites. Most of their data are three to six months old.
A senior MoF official said the move will help the government take forward its coveted e-governance programme to the era of faster network communication.
Blaming lax government initiative in the past for the slow progress in the implementation of the e-governance programme, he said most of the government activities and actions remained confined to paper only.
"Many ministries and divisions are still ignoring the government directive to carry forward the e-governance programme although there is no other appropriate option to establish transparency and good governance," he added.
The e-governance cell was established last year and was described as essentially important to ensure proper utilisation of the national resources and public fund under the development budget.
