IMF team meets NBR Dec 9

A mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is scheduled to meet the revenue board on December 9 to discuss revenue collection trends, status of new VAT and income tax laws and administrative reforms.
The mission, led by the fund's deputy division chief of the Asia Pacific department David Cower, will be visiting Bangladesh from December 6 to 15.
IMF resident representative to Bangladesh Eteri Kvintradze recently sent a letter to the National Board of Revenue (NBR), giving the team's topics for discussion.
Revenue targets for the fiscal 2011-12, reform initiatives, technical assistance and capacity building needs are among the topics to be discussed during the meeting.
The previous IMF mission had collected information about tax arrears and main debtors of taxes including state-owned entities till the end of 2009 and 2010.
The team also scrutinised gross and net repayments of tax arrears in 2009 and 2010, import tariffs and trade reforms.
Changes in trade tariff structures in 2010 and tariff reform measures in the 2011 budget also came under review of the multilateral lending agency.
