CHITTAGONG, Oct 26: Leaders of the Greater Chittagong Development Action Committee (GCDAC) submitted a memorandum recently to the Deputy Commisioner of Chittagong demanding immediate implementation of the government declared development package of Tk 35 billion to build the port city to an international standard.
The memorandum which is to be forwarded to the Chief Adviser of the caretaker government includes the demand for the formation of Karnaphuli Gas Transmission Company (KGTC) for Chittagong region on an urgent basis, supplying gas in excess of 20 mmcf to the power and industrial sector, construction of Trans Asian Rail Line and Four-Lane road, excavation of canals and building sluice gates, etc.
The development package was announced in a meeting of the council of advisers held at the local Circuit House on August 13 last with the Chief Adviser in the chair.
It was stated in the memo that all these decisions were supposed to be implemented within two months but that period has already passed and nothing effective has been done so far. This, as was expected, has created resentment among the people of Chittagong.
