Implementation of cabinet decisions comes down

The rate of implementation of decisions taken by the cabinet has come down to 75 per cent in last fiscal year (FY) from 95 per cent in FY 2011-12, sources said.
In FY 2010-11, the implementation rate was at 97 per cent, a Cabinet Division memo said.
Last week the Cabinet Division informed the ministries and departments concerned about the progress and requested for expediting steps for implementation of the decisions taken by the cabinet headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.  .
Sources said the cabinet in FY 2012-13 held 52 meetings where 306 decisions were taken. Of them, 243 were implemented during the year.
In FY 2011-12 the cabinet took 306 decisions in 39 meetings of which 291 were implemented. On the other hand, the cabinet took 251 decisions in FY 2010-11 of which 244 decisions, that is, 97 per cent were implemented.  
Statistics show that number of meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs decreased during the last fiscal year.
In FY 2012-13, the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase met on 29 occasions against 40 each in previous two fiscals. Some 207 proposals were placed at the meetings of three fiscals of which 197 got approval.
On the other hand, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held 11 meetings each in FY 2012-13 and FY 2011-12 and 14 meetings in FY 2010-11. Some 42 proposals were approved in these meetings out of 51 placed in the last three fiscal years.
A senior Cabinet Division official termed the rate of implementation of decisions taken by the cabinet as satisfactory.
Portraying a comparison he said during the FY 2007-08, the cabinet took 285 decisions of which 172 or 61 per cent were implemented. In FY 2006-07, some 210 decisions or 75 per cent were implemented against 280 taken.
