Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has said that the country witnessed a massive success in the education sector as the government had taken steps to implement the ‘Education Policy’ after assuming power in 2008. Improving standard of education, reaching the pass rates at all levels of educations at a satisfactory level and raising the literacy rates are among the major success stories in the education sector, he said. He was speaking at a function to distribute stipends among the students of GPA-5 recipients at the BSCIC conference room in the city. A total of 38 meritorious students were given the stipends for obtaining GPA-5 in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations in 2013. The students are sons and daughters of officials and employees of the BSCIC. BSCIC chairman Shym Sundar Sikder presided over the function while Industries Secretary Moinuddin Abdullah spoke on the occasion as the special guest. Amu said the government has undertaken multifarious steps including introduction of IT in educational institutions and distribution of textbooks free at all primary schools aimed at reaching the light of education to the doorsteps of all. He said the BSCIC has not only been setting up industries in the country but also working for building a knowledge-based nation. Congratulating the meritorious students for their brilliant academic results, the minister expressed his optimism that they will continue to do so in the coming years too, according to BSS.
