Implementing 'no helmet, no fuel' policy

Thursday, 16 May 2024

The government's directive to implement the 'No Helmet, No Fuel' policy across the country starting from May 15, 2024, is a significant step towards enhancing road safety. The 'No Helmet, No Fuel' policy is a practical approach to ensuring that motorcyclists adhere to safety regulations. Helmets are crucial for protecting riders from severe head injuries in case of accidents. By making fuel contingent on wearing helmets, it is believed that the authorities can significantly reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries on roads.
However, successful implementation requires strict monitoring and public awareness campaigns. Fuel station attendants must be vigilant and uncompromising in enforcing this rule. Additionally, raising awareness of motorcyclists on the importance of helmet use is essential. This policy should also be accompanied by broader measures to improve road safety, including better road infrastructure, stricter enforcement of traffic laws, and comprehensive training for all road users.
I urge the authorities to ensure that this policy is not just a temporary measure but a sustained effort to foster a culture of safety among motorcyclists. Let us all support this initiative to create safer roads for everyone in Bangladesh.
