Imported cars to be unloaded at Mongla port

KHULNA, Nov 10: For the first time imported cars are going to be unloaded at Mongla Port soon. This was decided in a recent meeting of Mongla Port Authority (MPA) with the importers.
In the meeting, the importers demanded reduction of port tariff. The port authority assured them of taking necessary measures in this connection.
MPA Chairman Ashraf Mohammad Iqbal presided over the meeting. Khulna divisional Customs Commissioner Md. Nurul Islam, MPA Member (Operation) Lutfar Rahman, Director (Admin) Mofidul Islam, President and Secretary of Bangladesh Re-conditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association (BARVIDA) Md. Abdul Haq and Abdul Majid respectively, Managing Director of Everest Shipping Lines Esteak Ahmed and General Manager of LYK Lines Mahbubul Alam were present in the meeting.
The MPA chairman said after unloading the imported cars at Mongla port the ships will be able to leave the port soon. Meanwhile, two row row ferries have been deployed at Maowa ferry ghat so that the imported cars can reach Dhaka immediately. More ferries would be deployed, if needed, for easy communication, he added.
The chairman also said the previous irregularities have already been removed from the port and there is no labour problem now.
He further said the port users have been encouraged to make export and import of garments items, food grains, jute goods and other commodities through this port.
