CHITTAGONG, July 18: A Dhaka-based importer organisation named Evergreen International was fined Tk 0.2 million yesterday on charge of importing goods under false declaration.
Besides that, extra duties worth over Tk 0.6 million were also realised from the said organisation.
According to the Chittagong Customs House (CCH) sources, a consignment of gum rezin worth over Tk 1.5 million imported by Evergreen International was seized by the Chittagong customs authority as the concerned importer made declaration to import natural gum.
Concerned sources said, specified duty for gum rezin is 25 per cent while that of the natural gum is 5.0 per cent only.
As the importing of goods under false declaration was detected at the time of delivery, the importer confessed his guilt and agreed to pay fine. CCH realised fine worth Tk 0.2 million and also realised extra duty amounting to over Tk 0.6 million from the importer for its involvement in importing goods under false declaration.
