Improving Dhaka's transportation system

Monday, 31 December 2018

Dhaka is a megacity of nearly 18 million people. The public transport facility of Dhaka is uncoordinated and inadequate given the total number of commuters. As a result, most commuters face a lot of hassle. Female commuters face most trouble while commuting. As they face harassment and hassles daily in public transport, many women are now using two-wheeled scooters to move independently.
The number of special buses for women is insufficient. More buses of this type are required for Dhaka's streets. Even the number of public buses for all passengers is inadequate.
The government should introduce more public buses in Dhaka city. Also, the number of private vehicles should not be allowed to increase while keeping the existing road infrastructure in mind.
