Improving power generation
Saturday, 25 October 2014
Our economy is gradually developing and in the coming days, we will need more energy to sustain such a pace of growth. We have to prepare for it from now.
But our energy infrastructure is quite insufficient. Per capita energy consumption is one of the lowest if we compare it with other developing countries. We need to change this situation.
Only 62 per cent of our population has the access to electricity and we have to provide electricity to every home of our country without interruption. Widespread corruption in administration, high system losses, delays in completion of new projects, poor plant maintenance and low efficiency of power plants are a few reasons which are hampering power generation to its full capacity.
If we can increase power generation of our existing power plants, then our economy will get a boost. The government should take some long-term planning to generate adequate power which will not only meet today's power requirement but also for the future.
Bangladesh is gradually becoming an important business hub of the world and we have immense potentials to become a country like Singapore.
Only we need to take long-term planning and establish transparency and good governance.
