Imran, 7 other Mancha activists hurt in clash

Wednesday, 17 September 2014

Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker was among eight injured in a clash which erupted in the city’s Shahbagh area between police and Mancha supporters following Supreme Court verdict on Delwar Hossain Sayedee’s appeal on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, Mancha rejected the Supreme Court judgment that reduced Sayedee’s capital punishment for wartime offences to ‘imprisonment until death.’ Eight people including the platform’s spokesperson Sarker received multiple injuries as police dispersed angry protesters with tear gas and water cannon just hours after the Appeallate Division commuted the Jamaat-e-Islami leader’s punishment on Wednesday. The top appeal court’s verdict follows Sayadee's appeal against the judgment by International Crimes Tribunal that awarded him death penalty in February last year. The injured were rescued and taken to BSMMU and Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment, according to private TV channels.
