NILPHAMARI, Nov 5: Acute crisis of fertiliser which has been prevailing in the district may hit winter cultivation.
When contacted deputy director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Nilphmari, told this correspondent that the crisis was prevailing as there was a big gap between demand and allotment of fertiliser.
The DAE deputy director said for the winter crop cultivation the demand for urea in the district was 29,000 tonnes but as against the demand the allotment was 24,000 tonnes, the demand for TSP was 2,000 tonnes while allotment was 1,000 tonnes and the demand for potash was 29,000 tonnes whereas the allotment was 700 tonnes.
Sources said inadequate allotment of fertiliser in the pick season of winter crop cultivation would create much sufferings to the cultivators.
On the other hand, sources said, a door to door survey was going on for an assessment on how much land each grower was cultivating so that fertiliser could be distributed proportionately.
Upazila administration, union parishads and tahsildars were cooperating in preparing the list of accurate quantity of land owned by a farmer which will help proper distribution of fertiliser among them, sources added.
