Inaugural meet on ICT pilot project held

The inaugural meeting of a pilot project linking information and communications technology (ICT) with micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in rural Bangladesh was held at the National Press Club in the city Friday, said a press release.
The Commonwealth Secretariat, in association with Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI), Bangladesh Women's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) and Digital Knowledge Foundation (DKF) organised the inaugural meeting.
Adviser for Industry of the Caretaker Government Geeteara Safiya Choudhury attended the function as the chief guest.
Ambassador Farook Sobhan, president of BEI, BWCCI's President Selima Ahmed and Commonwealth Secretariat Member Ram Venuprasad were present as the special guests on the occasion.
The speakers expressed the opinion that this project would promote business activities in rural areas. They termed the project an important one.
The speakers gave briefing on the project background and technical assistance that aimed to enhance the competitiveness of Bangladesh's MSME competitiveness through ICT across the districts.
They said this would be a milestone initiative for the rural people, specially for rural women, of the country.
