Incentives for regular tax payers

Saturday, 23 August 2008

A change in tax paying habit is noticeable in the country. With several measures, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has been able to bring the change in this regard. Every day we read about actions taken by the NBR against the dodgers as well as opportunities offered by it to the people to get into the tax net enthusiastically. For all these reasons, the evasion culture, so long popular, is ebbing.

In such a positive situation, it would be appreciated if the government introduces incentives like special identification cards or awards to regular as well as the highest payers. This will encourage the tax payment culture.

At the same time, the tax payers need to know where and how their money is spent. In the developed countries, governments remain accountable to the taxpayers. On the contrary, the regular tax payers in our country do not know how and where the tax money is spent. Do they get benefits for paying taxes?

There will always be a tendency among some people to avoid paying taxes. But the suggested incentives would certainly encourage the sincere ones to keep their earnings transparent and pay the taxes.
