Incessant rainfall brings smile on faces of jute cultivators

MAGURA, May 05: The incessant rain that is lashing the district for the last couple of days has come as a boon for the jute growers.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Magura, sources said jute cultivation is going on in full swing. Over 27,050 hectares of land were brought under the farming of the cash crop this season with a production target of 4,20,050 bales. Rainfall helps reduce irrigation cost.
Farmer Taposh Pal of Jagla village under Magura Sadar said he brought three bighas of land under jute cultivation. Recent rainfall saved irrigation cost of Tk 5,000.
Magura DAE deputy director Patha Protim Shaha said recent rainfall has brought smile on the faces of jute cultivators.
