Some eminent researchers on the life and works of Rabindranath Tagore have suggested that the writings of the Noble laureate on economic issues should be included in the curriculum of higher education, reports BSS.

The researchers, also writers on Tagore's works, came up with the suggestion, explaining that this would be helpful for hammering out our development strategy in a more practical manner.
They were sharing their experiences in studying Tagore's socioeconomic ideology as the nation was preparing to celebrate the 153rd birth anniversary of the Nobel laureate.
"We have read the essays of Rabindranath and a few are aware that the poet pioneered rural banking like today's Grameen Bank, introduced the idea of financial inclusion and inclusive growth and adopted modern technologies in our agriculture sector," Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr Atiur Rahman told the news agency..
The development economist, who has a good number of researches and publications on Tagore's economy and social thoughts, said study on Rabindranath has been going on partially while the focus is narrowed down on his novels, stories and songs only.
The BB chief advised that Tagore's writings particularly the essays those are included in the book named "Atmashakti" (self-esteem) should be studied at the university level.
He said the poet established a bank in Patisar for lending money to the farmers who used to count high rate of interest for borrowing money from rural money lenders (mahajans).
