Income tax deadline extended till Nov 30

The income-tax returns filing deadline has been extended by a month for individual tax payers. Those who are yet to file their tax returns can now do so within November 30, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) said on Sunday. The extension has been granted as many tax-payers were not able to collect the tax-filing papers due to Holy Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja holidays, the NBR said. Appeals from various organisations, including the FBCCI, also influenced the decision to extend the income tax filing timeline by one more month. The earlier cut-off was September 28, which was postponed to November 2 after the first extension, although the income-tax ordinance states that returns must be filed by Sept 30. The deadline last year was finally fixed for December 31 after several extensions, according to a release.
