Income-tax lawyers urged to help tax-payers

CHITTAGONG, Sept 2: Income-tax lawyers have been urged to extend all-out cooperation to genuine taxpayers in paying their income taxes.
Member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Ali Ahmad made the appeal while exchanging views with the members of Chittagong Income Tax Lawyers' Association (CITLA) here Saturday.
He expressed the hope that the taxpayers would come forward to pay their taxes at their own initiative as income tax is treated as an integral part of the national economy.
Terming the Income Tax Laws as complicated ones, Ali also urged the lawyers to assist the taxpayers so that they can pay their taxes easily.
He further urged the income tax officials to be alert so that no taxpayer was victimised or harassed during payment of their taxes.
CITLA President Md Abdul Malek presided over the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, CITLA General Secretary Mohammad Musa called for construction of a separate building for the Income Tax Department in Chittagong as huge amount of money is realised from Chittagong every year.
