Income tax return filing deadline now Dec 31
FE REPORT | Monday, 24 November 2025
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for individual taxpayers to submit their income-tax returns for the tax year 2025-26.
The new deadline is now set for December 31, providing taxpayers an additional month to file their returns. The original deadline was scheduled to expire on November 30.
The NBR issued a special order on Sunday, announcing the extension.
In another order, the NBR said taxpayers facing difficulties with online submission due to registration issues related to e-return system are now allowed to apply to the Deputy Commissioner of Taxes concerned with reasonable grounds by December 15.
This year, online submission of income tax returns has been made mandatory for all individual taxpayers, except for certain groups.
These exemptions include senior citizens aged 65 and above, physically disabled or specially challenged individuals, Bangladeshi nationals living abroad, legal representatives filing on behalf of deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh.
Despite these exemptions, the NBR has clarified that these taxpayers may still choose to file their returns online if they wish. Authorised representatives of taxpayers are also permitted to submit e-returns this year.
Although online filing is not mandatory for Bangladeshi taxpayers residing abroad, they can register in the e-return system and submit their returns from abroad. To do so, they must send their passport number, national ID number, email address, and other required information to ereturn@etaxnbr.gov.bd. Upon receiving the application, an OTP and registration link will be sent to the applicant's email.
Without uploading any documents or papers, taxpayers can easily enter their actual income, expenses, assets, and liabilities into the e-return system from home and pay income tax online through debit card, credit card, internet banking, or mobile financial services (such as bKash and Nagad).
The system allows taxpayers to submit returns smoothly and instantly download the automated acknowledgement slip and income tax certificate.
To make the e-return filing process more comprehensible, the NBR, like last year, has provided training to taxpayers for online return submission.
The NBR has also provided training this year to authorised representatives of taxpayers -- income tax lawyers, chartered accountants, cost and management accountants, and chartered secretaries -- on the e-return filing process.
To assist taxpayers, the NBR has also set up a call centre. By calling at 09643 71 71 71, taxpayers can receive immediate telephonic assistance regarding e-return queries.
Furthermore, through the eTax Service option at www.etaxnbr.gov.bd, taxpayers may report any e-return-related problems in writing and receive solutions.
Additionally, e-return help desks located in all tax zones across the country provide all services and advice related to e-return filing during office hours. Taxpayers are receiving these services either by visiting their respective tax zones in person or by telephone.
The NBR urges all individual taxpayers to submit their income tax returns using the e-return system by 31 December.
Meanwhile, more than 1.8 million individual taxpayers have already submitted e-returns online this year.
