SYLHET, Aug 26: At last, the incomplete work on the much-desired bridge over Surma river at Chhatak in Sunamganj would be resumed soon. Work orders were issued on Thursday last by the authorities of the Roads and Highways Department (RHD).
Contracting firms 'Messrs Janmobhumi' and The Nirmiti' have been given the responsibility to complete the Tk 304.9 million work, sources informed.
Additional chief engineer of RHD, Sylhet zone, Md Shahnawaz told this correspondent on Saturday that the ministry on August 22 approved the project. "We hope the main job would be resumed soon", he added.
Sources said the whole project is set to be completed by June 2018. But there is a possibility to extend the project time for a year more.
The authorities earlier kept the bridge works in pending for over 10 months into its approval by the ECNEC. The project worth Tk 1.13 billion was approved in October 2016. The delay is mainly due to slow process of the land acquisition for approaches.
