Increase in budgetary allocation stressed
FE Report | Tuesday, 5 May 2015
Speakers at a programme on Monday stressed the need for increasing allocation for women's welfare in the next budget.
They made their comments at a pre-budget views-exchange meeting on 'Gender Sensitive National Budget 2015-2016' organised by Steps Towards Development (Steps), a non-government organisation (NGOs), at the city's National Press Club.
They emphasised allocating more money to those sectors that keep a positive impact on reducing inequity between women and men directly.
They also said special allocation for women helps reduction of discrimination. So government should continue and increase allocation in this sector gradually.
State minister for ministry of finance and ministry of planning M A Mannan was the chief guest while economist M M Akash and senior research fellow of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) Nazneen Ahmed were present, among others, at the programme. Executive director of Steps Ranjan Karmakar presented the keynote paper at the programme.
