Increased incidents of smuggling gold

Wednesday, 12 March 2014

Incidents of seizing gold have increased recently. It is the credit of the customs officials who prevented many big transactions of gold from other countries to Bangladesh. The customs department has a fixed rate of duty on gold transaction. The smugglers try to evade duty on large amount of gold as it is a precious metal. Thus the gold becomes illegal and the smugglers earn a lot of money by selling the gold to the local gold markets.
Our law enforcers along with the customs authority try to prevent those smugglers because the country is losing a huge amount of tax due to tax evasion by some corrupt businessmen. Experts and law enforcers suspect a section of smugglers are also using Bangladesh as a transit to send smuggled gold to the neighbouring country taking advantage of the former's geographic location. The smugglers along with the unscrupulous businessmen should face dire consequences so that no one dares evade duty and smuggle anything. The law enforcing agencies should thoroughly investigate into the smuggling cases and find out if there is any involvement of the airlines officials in this detestable job. If there is anyone, he or she should be punished severely.
