Increasing livestock production

Saturday, 18 June 2022

Bangladesh, once highly dependent on Indian cattle, today is almost self-reliant in meeting its own demand, even when millions of cattle are slaughtered across the country during Eid-ul-Azha. A recent survey of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics has found that the number of cattle and goats has increased manifold in past several years. However, many of our livestock farmers still lack knowledge of modern practices.
The livestock sector can create new opportunities for farmers. This can be a potential sector for the country, if our government starts paying due attention to farms. In order to increase our livestock productivity, the authorities concerned and the private sector need to develop ways to enhance rural infrastructures such as roads to improve the efficiency of production.
