Increasing number of blood donors stressed

FE Report | Thursday, 16 June 2022

Speakers at a blood donor reception programme have stressed the need for increasing the number of voluntary blood donors to save thousands of lives in the country.
They said the patients like anaemic, thalassaemia, haemophilia, haemorrhage, operation, burn injury and accidents are badly in need of blood.
But nearly 22,000 people die every year after failing to manage blood in time due to a huge gap between demand and supply, they said, adding that blood is only substitute for blood.
The speakers made the observations at the reception programme of Quantum Foundation organised at the National Press Club in the city on Tuesday marking the World Blood Donor Day.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud attended the function as the chief guest with founder chairman of Palliative Medicine Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof Dr Nizamuddin Ahmed in the chair.
Chief Coordinator of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Dr Samanta Lal Sen and Director (Motivation) M Rezaul Hasan also spoke on the occasion.
