Indefinite transport strike in greater Ctg postponed

Hours after its enforcement, transport workers on Thursday night postponed their indefinite strike in greater Chittagong until Friday afternoon. Mrinal Chowdhury, president of Chittagong chapter of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation, made the announcement following assurance from the administration to rescue abducted transport worker leader Nurul Islam. He said they decided the put on hold the strike until 4pm on Friday as the administration assured them of rescuing the victim by then. Earlier, Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation enforced the strike in Chittagong, Rangamati, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban and Khagrachhari districts at 6pm demanding that the victim be rescued unhurt. Announcing the strike, Mohammad Musa, general secretary of Arakan Road Transport Workers' Association, had said they would continue the strike until the abducted transport worker is traced unhurt. Earlier on Wednesday night, some miscreants identifying them as law enforcers picked up Nurul Islam, general secretary of City Human-hauler Workers’ Association, from Bandartilla under EPZ Police Station when he was returning home, according to a news agency.
