Indefinite transport strike in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ: District Motor Workers’ Union went on an indefinite transport strike in the district Sunday morning protesting the alleged attack on some bus workers by auto-rickshaw drivers.
No long route bus, truck and tank lorry were seen plying on the road as District Truck Workers’ and Tank lorry Workers’ Union also expressed their solidarity with the motor workers, causing untold sufferings to passengers, according to a news agency.
The union workers also threatened to continue their strike if the officer-in-charge of DB police is not withdrawn immediately.
Meanwhile, a meeting with the feuding groups at the deputy commissioner’s office ended inclusively Sunday.
At least 30 workers sustained injuries as police fired rubber bullets and lobbed teargas shells on them when they blocked a highway in the district town Saturday, protesting the attack on their colleagues by auto-rickshaw drivers.
Besides, 27 workers including seven police were injured in a clash between workers and police at the municipality bus terminal area Sunday.
