Independence Day observed in Khulna

KHULNA, Mar 28: Independence and National day was observed in Khulna, Bagerhat and Satkhira as elsewhere in the country with renewed pledge. The programmes were heralded with the placing of floral wreathes at the altar of the central of the Saheed Minar and at the freedom fighters Smriti Saudha at Gallamari at midnight by different political, social, students and various professional organisations to pay respect to those valiant freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the independence of the country. The day was also heralded with 31 gun salutes at dawn of the day at the Khulna collectorate ground. National flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings. Commissioner of Khulna Division Moshiur Rahman formally hoisted the national flag at the Khulna stadium ground that morning and attended a combined march past by boy scouts, girls guides, Ansar, VDPs, BNCC, and students of local educational institutions. Special prayers were held at mosques and other places of worship for the peace, progress and prosperity of the nation. Improved diet was served to jailhouse, hospitals and orphanages in the city. District Administration accorded reception to the freedom fighters programme at the Deputy Commissioner Conference room where the KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque was present as chief guest. Discussion meetings on the significance of the day were held under auspices of different political, socio-cultural and professional organisations in the city. Khulna University put up a day-long programme at the university campus with laying floral wreaths at the Gollamary Smrithi Saudha at the mid-night on that night. Faridpur BSS adds: The 41st Independence and National day was observed Saturday with a renewed call to materialise the dreams of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by building a happy and prosperous Bangladesh. The day began with 31 gun salute and hoisting of National flag atop of all public and private buildings. Floral wreaths were placed at the martyr's plaque located in the Goalchamat area of the town. People also placed wreaths at the mass grave located a side of Faridpur stadium. Marchpast participated by the students, police, Ansars and VDP were held at the local stadium. DC Faridpur took the salute. A reception was held at Kabi Jasimuddin hall to honour the freedom fighters and also to the family members of the martyred freedom fighters. A discussion meeting was held at Ambika Maidan. Labour, Manpower and Expatriate welfare Minister Engineer Khondokar Mosharraf Hossain attended the meeting as chief guest. The minister in his address underscored the need for a happy and prosperous Bangladesh to materialise the dreams of Bangabandhu and Valiant freedom fighters that sacrificed their Lives.
