India-Arab trade to top $100b in four years

NEW DELHI, Dec 3 (PTI): India's trade with Arab League nations is witnessing rapid growth and could top USD 100 billion in the next four years, Arab League Secretary General Amre Moussa said here yesterday.
India's trade with Arab countries has nearly quadrupled from USD eight billion in 2000 to USD 30 billion in 2007-08, Moussa said inaugurating the India-Arab Forum organised by FICCI, Arab League and the government.
He made it clear that the trade figures did not include oil and petroleum products.
The forum marks a new era in the relations with India including in political, economic and cultural fields as well as in trade, investment, energy, environment, media, science and technology, human resources development, Moussa said.
Speaking on the occasion, Mukherjee said "we believe the Forum will emerge as a mechanism to strengthen and diversify our relations in various fields.
