The White House has avoided Bangladesh issues in its readout, though the Indian side, through their Prime Minister's Office, has said Biden and Modi discussed the situation in Bangladesh as well as other issues, reports UNB.
The White House said, US President Joe Biden spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the latter's recent trip to Poland and Ukraine, as well as the United Nations General Assembly meetings in September.
The US President commended the Indian Prime Minister for his historic visits to Poland and Ukraine, the first by an Indian PM in decades, and for his message of peace and ongoing humanitarian support for Ukraine, including its energy sector, it said.
The leaders affirmed their continued support for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in accordance with international law, on the basis of the UN Charter.
They also emphasized their continued commitment to work together, including through regional groups like the Quad, to contribute to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
However Indian media NDTV reports from New Delhi Narendra Modi Tuesday received a phone call from US President Joe Biden and discussed his recent Ukraine visit and the situation in Bangladesh among other things.
PM Modi and Biden shared concern over the situation in Bangladesh. They emphasised the restoration of law and order and ensuring the safety and security of the minorities, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh.
The Indian government has been sounding alarm over reports of attacks on Bangladesh's Hindu minority immediately following Sheikh Hasina's overthrow.
Bangladesh's new interim government has already said it is committed to restore law and order and to protect all minorities.
While discussing Ukraine, PM Modi reiterated India's consistent position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy and expressed full support for the early return of peace and stability.
