India engaged in smear campaign against BD, says Mirza Fakhrul

FE REPORT | Thursday, 14 November 2024

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused India of persistently spreading propaganda against Bangladesh.
"I have no hesitation in saying that India is constantly carrying out propaganda against Bangladesh. We should be cautious about the information circulating on social media. Some individuals are trying to undermine the achievements of Bangladesh. We all should be careful. We can no longer afford another crisis right now," he said.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while talking to journalists at his Kalibari residence in Thakurgaon on Wednesday.
He said, "A great danger still looms over us. The mastermind of fascism (Sheikh Hasina) is now staying in India. We must be conscious or we have to face a big disaster.
"The fascist Awami League has successfully managed to divide the nation. We want our nation to be united by removing division. There may be different political views, but our unity should be based on some fundamental issues like independence, sovereignty, democracy and people's rights."
Asked whether there was any coordination between the political parties, students and people before appointing new advisers, Mr Fakhrul said, "It depends on the chief adviser. He can appoint anyone he likes. Contact with political parties for appointing advisers is not necessary. They (interim government) can do it. I would just warn them to be cautious about the appointment. Those who will be appointed should not be controversial figures."
"It is also our responsibility to help the government so they meet with success. As we participated in the movement, we should be patient," he said.
Former member of parliament for Thakurgaon-3 constituency Zahidul Islam, General Secretary of BNP district unit Mirza Faisal Amin and municipal unit President Shariful Islam Sharif were present, among others.
Meanwhile, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that there is no chance for fallen autocratic ruler Sheikh Hasina to return to power.
He demanded that the interim government reveal all the accords signed with India from 2009 to August 5, 2024. He was speaking at a programme to provide free eye care treatment to those who sustained injuries during the July-August uprising at Banani in the capital on Wednesday.
The event was organised by Amora BNP Paribar (We are BNP Family) on the instruction of BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Rizvi termed power supply deal with India's Adani uneven and unequal. "Sheikh Hasina has no patriotism. She has love for India only and people of Bangladesh now understand it," he said.
