NEW YORK, May 21: Chief of Indian airforce Air Chief Marshal PV Naik told the Indian media that India, like the US, has the surgical strike capability. A day after India's army chief Gen VK Singh said Indian armed forces are capable of carrying out surgical operations similar to one conducted by the US to kill Osama bin-Laden. All the three wings are capable of carrying out such operations. "But we need green signal for this from the top," Gen Singh asserted. India's main opposition party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) immediately lent its support saying India would be well within its right to carry out such operations. BJP lambasted the US for differentiating the 911 incident and the Mumbai incident. BJP said Indian lives are as precious as American lives. Indian Express published from New York said there is a clamour in India for something similar. The key elements of a surgical strike are a capable force and a decisive political leadership. In India's case both are missing, Indian Express quoted a former intelligence official as saying. Pakistan, in the meanwhile, has earned strong support from China. China will deliver Pakistan 50 JF aircraft free of cost. The fighter aircraft has been manufactured under joint collaboration between China and Pakistan. China has assured Pakistan that it would stand by it in hours of need. The United States would also not like India venturing a surgical strike that will escalate tension in the region. The US has provided Pakistan with F-16 fighter to help the country match the airpower of its arch rival, India. Pakistan-China deal is being viewed as another sign of strong bilateral ties between the two. Pak-China ties are less encumbered than Pak-US ties, analyst say. China is Pakistan's largest trading partner. Besides China has invested heavily in Pakistan in deep sea and to beef up its military.
