India now won’t check all goods at Petrapole

BENAPOLE, Apr 22 (UNB): Indian customs authorities stepped back on Monday from its previous decision of unloading 100 per cent products for scrutiny before releasing the receipts of import and export at Petrapole port from Benapole port.
The Indian authorities took the decision due to lack of different facilities including adequate space, human resources and machineries at the port.
Importers who felt relieved with the decision said normally for many other types of mismanagement, each lot of goods takes 10 to 15 days to be imported from India to Bangladesh while additional inspection could multiply the hazards and also raise the import cost affecting the local market.
On April 16, Indian Petrapole Customs authorities decided to check all the products before releasing the receipts of import and export.
