India reaffirms support for democratic, stable BD

Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pranay Verma today said New Delhi always supported and would continue to support a democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh as he hosted an Iftar reception joined by government leaders and distinguished citizens,reports BSS.
"India has always supported - and will continue to support - a democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh," he told the reception at a hotel in the capital.
The envoy highlighted the deep-rooted friendship and enduring people-to-people ties between India and Bangladesh and described the gathering as a reflection of strong bonds of friendship and close societal and familial connections between the peoples of the two neighbouring countries.
"Our two nations share a rich history and profound cultural connections. The indelible memory of our shared sacrifices during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 continues to unite our peoples," he added.
Local government minister and BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and several of his cabinet colleagues including energy minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, civil aviation minister Afroza Khanom Rita and state Minister for foreign afffairs Shama Obaed attended the iftar.
Verma said the distinguished guests' presence of at the Iftar reaffirmed the collective commitment to further strengthen bilateral friendship and cooperation.
Verma noted that as two vibrant and forward-looking societies, India and Bangladesh stood at the threshold of a promising future based on shared prosperity and regional cooperation.
