India reassures of bringing border killing to zero level

Saturday, 22 March 2014

India has reassured Bangladesh that its Border Security Force (BSF) is exercising ‘utmost restraint’ in an effort to bring down the killing of Bangladesh nationals at the border to zero level. The assurance came during a foreign secretary level meeting between the two countries. While recognising that the number of killing has reduced significantly in recent times, Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary Bangladesh Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque expressed his hope that the ‘sustained efforts’ taken by the Indian side would help bring down the killing of Bangladesh nationals at the border to zero. Both sides appreciated the excellent cooperation that exists between the two countries in the area of security, overall and particularly between the two border forces for an increasingly effective border management and reiterated their commitment to take the existing cooperation to a higher level. The Bangladesh Foreign Secretary also held separate meetings with Indian Textiles Secretary Zohra Chatterjee and Power Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha on Friday afternoon, according to a media release issued in Dhaka by the Foreign Ministry.
