Friday, 21 September 2007

NEW DELHI, Sep 20 (PTI): Under attack for buying wheat from overseas at record high prices, the government yesterday said it has decided to go slow on import of the grain and is watching rates in the international market.
"We have decided to go slow (on import of wheat) and are carefully watching the situation and assessing the release to various states and also international market prices," Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said on the sidelines of a seminar here.
"Whatever policy decisions we had adopted, we would be able to manage it and if required we would review. But as on date there is no requirement," he said, adding there was substantial production and wheat stock in the country.
