India, US can play key part in USD 17tr clean energy drive

NEW DELHI, Sep 9 (PTI) India and the US could play major roles in the clean energy technology drive to create green industry at a whopping investment of USD 17 trillion (about Rs 6,80,00,000 crore) by 2025, U.S. Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary David Bohigian said yesterday. brIndia and the United States can be active partners in the U.S.D. 17 trillion clean energy technology drive towards sustainable and green industry by 2025, he said at a Clean Energy seminar said here. brThere is a vast opportunity all over the world in clean energy technologies and the industry has an important role to play in promoting it, he said, adding in post 2012 framework, we should identify and work towards common goals and common responsibilities. brClean energy is the sector that is gaining importance, it is the third most important sector, after I.T. and biotech, in the list of venture capitalists in the U.S., he said. brHe said the common goals for countries should be reducing carbon intensity and poverty alleviation and the road to a cleaner technology should be industry led, technology driven and at the same time result oriented, he said.
