SYLHET, Aug 19 (UNB) : Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Pankaj Saran on Tuesday said India wants its northeastern states to have greater business ties with Bangladesh.
Although this relation has been weakened over the last few decades, India wants to regenerate it, he told a function at a city hotel.
The programme, titled 'Buyer Seller Meet', was organised by Meghalaya Horticulture and Handloom Products of Sylhet.
Noting that Bangladesh's trade gap with India has been in a 'sensitive' state, the Indian envoy said trade liberalisation has been taking place in some sectors in this connection.
As steps have been taken to modernise and reform the land customs stations along the border of the two countries, the trade will become easier, he observed.
The Indian envoy also assured the businesses of solving the problems related to business visas.
The function was also addressed by Sylhet City Corporation mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Indian deputy high commissioner in Bangladesh Somnath Halder and Sylhet customs commissioner Nuruzzaman.
