Sunday, 13 October 2024

Nahid Islam, information adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has said India wants to portray the current situation in Bangladesh as tending towards extremism, reports bdnews24.com.
"India wants to make it seem as if extremism is taking hold in Bangladesh," he said. "That feeds the extremism going on in their own country. They are always spreading such propaganda."
He made the remarks while talking to the media after attending a rally commemorating the 16th founding anniversary of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur on Saturday.
Nahid said, "The forces defeated on the streets are spreading lies and rumours about the country and trying to exercise their power on social media. They are spreading various rumours through fake accounts. We need to be more aware of such issues."
"Aby Sayed, a student of Begum Rokeya University, was martyred and gave his blood in the fight for our rights. The freedom we are enjoying today comes at the sacrifice of the bloodshed by martyrs, including Abu Sayed."
"The interim government is working to take the country forward by upholding the ideals for which the students and the people shed their blood and gave their lives during the mass uprising."
The information adviser inaugurated the main gate at the university earlier in the morning.
He then spoke as the chief guest at a discussion chaired by the university's Vice chancellor Md Showkat Ali.
The university authorities said the university started out under the name Rangpur University on Oct 20, 2008, under the caretaker government, but the name was changed to Begum Rokeya University in 2009 after the Awami League came to power.
University authorities say the main gate was built at a cost of Tk 20.9 million.
Old Dhaka Puja venue attackers will receive exemplary punishment, says Advisor Nahid
Meanwhile, Nahid Islam has given assurances that the victims of an attack on a Puja venue in Old Dhaka's Tantibazar will be given the best medical care possible and that the government will bear all costs for their treatment, reports bdnews24.com.
The perpetrators involved in the attacks will be arrested soon and given exemplary punishment, he said.
The advisor made the statement after visiting those injured in the attack at Mitford Hospital early on Saturday, the Ministry of Information said in a statement.
On Friday night, attackers threw an improvised explosive into a Puja venue at Old Dhaka's Tantibazar. It did not detonate.
However, four volunteers at the venue were stabbed by the attackers. They were later admitted to Mitford Hospital.
Police say the attack was conducted by a group of muggers. They have detained three people in connection with the incident.
Nahid said: "These criminals are attempting to carry out sabotage, but we will not give them any opportunity to do so. The criminals will be arrested quickly and arrangements will be made for their exemplary punishment, no matter who they are."
