Indian Army Chief Kapoor arrives on six-day visit

Indian Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor arrived in the city Sunday afternoon on a 6-day tour aimed at improving bilateral ties and greater military-military interaction between the armed forces of the two countries, reports UNB.
General Kapoor accompanied by his wife Kirti Kapoor flew in at the BAF tarmac at Kurmitola by a special aircraft of the Indian Air Force at 3:20pm. He is leading a 4-member military delegation.
Quarter Master General Lt Gen Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury received Gen Kapoor on behalf of the Bangladesh Army Chief Gen Moeen U Ahmed. Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Pinak Ranjan Chakrabarty was, among others, present.
During his visit, Gen Kapoor will call on President Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed.
The Indian army chief will also call on Army Chief Gen Moeen U Ahmed, Chief of Naval Staff Vice-Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal SM Ziaur Rahman today (Monday.)
His itinerary includes placing wreath at Shikha Anirban and Bijoy Ketan in Dhaka Cantonment, National Museum, Defence Services Command and Staff College, Liberation War Memorial sites in Comilla, Liberation War Field and War Cemetery in Chittagong and Bangladesh Military Academy at Bhatiary, Chittagong.
Gen Kapoor is expected to leave on August 1.
According to bdnews24.com, the Indian army chief's visit came five months after his Bangladesh counterpart General Moeen U Ahmed visited India in February with the promise of "ushering in a new era of close cooperation" between the two armies.
Moeen's visit had seen the two armies agree to take new initiatives to deepen military cooperation, paving the way for joint counter-terrorism exercises.
