Indian educational institutions make significant contribution to transmission of knowledge

Indian High Commission in Dhaka in cooperation with Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) organised a reception in the city Thursday to celebrate the Alumni Day, International Students Day and Education Day, reports UNB.
Addressing the gathering, mostly comprising Bangladesh nationals who studied in India, High Commissioner of India Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty said, Indian educational institutions have made a significant contribution to transmission of knowledge and enquiry into frontiers of science and technology.
He also said that according to some estimates, every year, over 4,000 new students from Bangladesh go to India to pursue their studies at various levels.
"The ICCR, on behalf of the Government of India, offers scholarships and fellowships to over 1,800 international students from over 70 countries. The scholarship scheme for students from Bangladesh is being utilised since 1972. Every year, ICCR offers over 100 scholarships to students and scholars from Bangladesh," the High Commissioner said.
In addition, he said, two scholarships are offered to two students from Bangladesh under Commonwealth Scholarship/Fellowship plan for masters, doctoral and post doctoral studies while five scholarships under AYUSH scheme for pursuing studies in Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy medicine and, one fellowship and one scholarship are available to students from Bangladesh under the SAARC Fellowship and Scholarship scheme.
The event was attended by about 200 persons including some eminent scholars from Bangladesh who have studied in India.
