Tuesday, 30 December 2014

An Indian girl, who crossed into Bangladesh to marry the man she loves, has been sent back home after serving a six-month jail term. Police handed over Pompa Rani wife of Amjad Ali of Kushtia’s Dharmadah village, to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel on Monday afternoon. She was turned over to India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at Darshana border that night. A Kushtia court sentenced her to 6 months in prison for trespassing. Pompa Rani, 20, who hails from Shikarpur Kuthiparha village of Nadia district of India’s West Bengal state, is a student of Shikarpur Debnath College. She said she had fallen in love with Amjad Ali of bordering Dharmadah village. On June 7, they tied the knot after she had crossed over using a river route. But acting on a tip off, Daulatpur police arrested her for trespassing. Since then she had been lodged in Kushtia Jail, according to a news agency.
