Indian goods worth Tk4.8m seized in Benapole

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel seized Indian goods worth Tk4.8 million at Amrakhali border point in Benapole on early Friday. Acting on secret information, a team of BGB-26 conducted a drive in the area and recovered the Indian contrabands worth Tk4.8m in an abandoned condition while they were being smuggled into the country through Amrakhali check post early in this morning, said Deputy Commander of BGB-26 Mohammad Liakat Ali. The seized items including saris, three-pieces, bronze statues, readymade garments, medicine, key rings, mobile phone sets, cosmetics, Phensidyl syrup, tealeaves, electronic tools, hardware equipment, foods and cumin seeds were deposited to Benapole Customs House. None was arrested in this connection as the smugglers managed to flee sensing the presence of the border guards. A case was filed with Benapole Port Police Station, according to UNB.
