Indian government awards scholarship to FFs’ wards

CHITTAGONG, Jan 24: Indian government has awarded scholarship to 148 students of higher secondary and degree levels in Chittagong.
State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Zaved and Assistant Indian High Commissioner in Chittagong office Somnath Ghose handed over the cheques for scholarship to the wards of freedom fighters (FFs) in the port city.
A total of 67 students of degree level received cheques for Tk 24,000 each, while 81 students of higher secondary level accepted cheques for Tk 10,000 each.
Indian government has been awarding scholarship to the descendants of the FFs for the last three years through the High Commission of India. This year the number of recipients is 1364.
Chief guest Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Zaved said the government of India has undertaken a very good initiative to help continue studies of the  descendents of valiant FFs who liberated this country through a nine-month long War of Independence against the soldiers of Pakistan with all-out support from Indian people and government in 1971.
Somnath Ghose said the scholarship of the Indian government is an act of showing honour to the valiant sons of this soil. The FFs along with their wards attended the function at Chittagong district Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
