Indian govt officials visit CCCI

CHITTAGONG, Mar 29: The officials of Indian Shipping Ministry Monday night met the executives of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) and said that existing barriers in the river routes would be removed soon. Head of the Indian delegation Rajeev Gupta said Bangladesh and India would jointly operate coastal vessels as the river routes play an important role in the expansion of trade of both the countries. Earlier, directors of CCCI welcomed the team. President of the trade body Morshed Murad Ibrahim, senior vice president Mahbubul Alam, directors of the CCCI, leaders of port handling associations and shipping businesses were present on the occasion. CCCI director Captain Shafi Chowdhury has asked the visiting Indian officials to ease visa formalities and admission process so that the naval crews and training aspirants from Bangladesh can get higher academic and professional trainings from Indian institutions. Senior vice chairman of Bangladesh Shipping Agents' Association M Kamal Hayat, India's assistant high commissioner Somenath Ghose, deputy secretary of Bangladesh Shipping Ministry Shahidul Islam, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
