Indian timber seized in Netrakona

NETRAKONA Jan 3 (UNB): Police seized Indian timber worth about Tk 1.0 million (10 lakh) from two sawmills adjacent to Nazirpur Bazar in Kolmakanda Upazila Wednesday.
Acting on a secret information, a team of DB police went to the spot and recovered the smuggled timber. They arrested Osman, owner of a sawmill in this connection and another sawmill owner Raisul managed to flee the scene.
A case was filed against them.
Another report from Jamalpur adds: Police arrested five drug peddlers along with heroin from Beparipara area in Jamalpur-Sherpur border Wednesday morning.
Acting on a tip off, police conducted the drive in the area and arrested Akbar, Pintu, Rezaul, Salahuddin and Saiful along with 11 small packets of heroin.
They were handed over to Sherpur Sadar police station. A case was filed against them under Narcotics Control Act.
