Indian troops kill nine rebels in Kashmir

Wednesday, 19 September 2007

SRINAGAR, Sept 18 (AFP):Indian troops have killed nine militants in Kashmir, three of them as they tried to sneak across the heavily-militarised border with Pakistan, the army and police said Tuesday.
Indian army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Anil Mathur told AFP that the three infiltrators were shot dead in the northern Machil sector late Monday, just minutes after crossing the Line of Control and refusing to surrender.
He added that over the past ten days, Indian troops have killed eleven militants attempting to cross from Pakistan, which like India controls a part of Kashmir but claims the Himalayan region in full.
