Indian truckers call indefinite strike at Benapole

Sunday, 6 April 2014

Export-import activities through Benapole Land Port are likely to come to a halt from Monday as Indian truck drivers have called an indefinite strike demanding the rescue of a missing fellow. Petrapole Port Truck Workers’ Union announced the strike on Sunday. The Indian truckers alleged that an Indian truck loaded with acid reached the Benapole Port on March 11. Since then, the driver along with the truck remained missing. When contacted, Benapole Port C&F traders said a section of Indian truck drivers are involved in selling trucks to smugglers after unloading goods in Benapole Port. Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have seized many such trucks from the port area, they said, according to a news agency.
