India's exports up 24pc

NEW DELHI, (Internet): India's exports grew by 23.5 per cent in June 2008 to $14.66 billion, compared to US$11.87 billion in the same month last year.

Imports during the month grew by 25.9 per cent to US$24.45 billion from US$19.42 billion, leaving a trade deficit of US$9.78 billion, according to official data released Friday.

Exports during the April-June period of the current fiscal increased by 22.3 per cent to US$42.84 billion from US$35.03 billion.

Imports for the first quarter went up by a huge 29.7 per cent to US$73.27 billion from US$56.50 billion. The trade gap for the period widened to US$30.42 billion against US$21.47.
