India's mined diamond output up 102pc in Aug

NEW DELHI, Nov 2 (Commodity Online): Mining activity in India has registered a growth of 7 per cent in the month of August against the corresponding period last year, while diamond output for the month rose 102.55 per cent.
However, the growth has been lower on the sequential basis as the production of minerals from Indian mines fell over 1 per cent during the month of August against that in the preceding month.
As per the data provided by the Ministry of Mining, Govt of India, the total value of mineral production, excluding atomic & minor minerals in the country during August 2010 was Rs. 134.50 billion.
The contribution of petroleum (crude) was the highest at Rs.53.37 billion up 40 per cent year on year. Coal production stood at Rs.34.81 billion, while iron ore (crude) was recorded at Rs. 21.87 billion and natural gas (utilised) Rs. 13.26 billion. Lignite production was registered at Rs3.03 billion and limestone output at Rs2.35 billion.
